Another couple of small steps for Transparency
The (children) Reporting Pilot has been gradually expanding in its reach since January 2023. From 4 November it has not only covered 19 family courts across England and Wales (including those with the highest volume of cases), but reporters have been able finally to...‘Why would you give me the power to make decisions about your children?’
This question was asked by HHJ Scannell at a private law hearing in Cardiff Family Court I attended last week. The judge explained to the two parents in dispute that she hoped they would take a problem-solving approach, in accordance with the Pathfinder principles....‘Have you thought about giving notice?’
It has taken five months for us to be able to tell this story. Ordinary cases matter. Open Justice shouldn’t be this hard.
